Scandinavian myth tells the story of the Goddess Freya. 

Her search for knowledge brought her to a secret cave, which was home to four dwarves.  These dwarves were master craftsmen, each holders of the sacred mysteries associated with their elemental names.

East honored Air, element of new beginnings, of thought and inspiration.

South held sacred the Fire of passion, of transformation.

West represented Water, the caulron of rebirth, the tides of emotion.

North, guardian of Earth, brought forth stability, protection and the ability to withstand anything.

With these dwarves, Freya shared her wisdom of love; the greatest mystery.  In honor of this, the dwarves created a magickal necklace, "the Brisingamen", a gift to the Goddess.

BrisingBeads was begun by Skylar Bre'z in 1991, as a way to honor this myth. 

Each piece of jewelry created is as one-of-a-kind as its wearer.  Antique elements, stones, and artwork are gathered together and mixed with lampwork and glass beads in detailed workmanship.   Pieces are often named for ancient Goddesses or modern-day heroines, which Skylar studies and researches in depth.  Skylar is also heavily influenced by garden, nature and travel themes.

"My favorite customer is the woman who is not accustom to wearing jewelry, who doesn't believe she has a 'need' for meaningful, artful displays.  When this woman puts a necklace or bracelet on, and then falls in love with how she looks, how the piece makes her feel, it's magick!  Changing a perception of self, or of others...that's magick and that's powerful, for me as an artist and also for the wearer."
