Combining Past, Present and & Future Into Wearable Art
Each piece of jewelry created is as one of a kind as its wearer. Antique elements, gemstones and artwork are gathered together and mixed with lampwork and glass beads using detailed workmanship. Pieces are often named for ancient Goddesses or modern day heroines, invoking the inspiration of the namesake. Gardens, travel and historical events are also heavy influences.
My favorite client is the one who rarely wears jewelry, who may believe that she doesn’t have a need for meaningful, artful displays. When this woman puts a necklace or bracelet on and then falls in love with how she looks wearing the piece, with how wearing the piece makes her feel – that’s magick! Changing a perception of self, or of others is powerful – for the wearer and for me!
In the past few years, I've been working on a Master's degree in Women's Studies (The Ohio State University). Now that I've graduated (!), I'm back in my hometown of Kalamazoo, MI to continue my studies in History - with a focus on gender, of course - at Western Michigan University. I find that it's very important to balance academia with some creativity! Can't have all that theory rot my brain...
So welcome to my adventures in beading! If you see something you like, let me know. All pieces are one of a kind and do tend to sell quickly. All pricing is negotiable - I sell to support my bead habit! Custom orders are welcome and enjoyed!
Blessings,
Skylar
